Let us worship with reverence and awe for our God is a consuming fire.

Yesterday was the start of VBS, so the entire platform was all decorated with Hawaiian decor, and many of us were wearing Hawaiian shirts and such. One of the cool benefits of the setting was the lack of pulpit (yes, we still have a pulpit). I'm going to be really honest here, no offence to anyone, but I think a pulpit is barrier to communication. I was glad to see it gone.
During our second half of the music, I did something very different for us (while not radical in the slightest for some of you readers). I "invited" the people to enact whatever posture they wished. What a difference. Probably about 60% of the folks stood, while others came to the altar, and there was more hand raising than I've seen in a long time. It was good and refreshing.
Again, with the pulpit gone, our pastor (in full Rick Warren-esque attire) grabbed once of our band's stools and sat down to preach. What a difference! It was like a conversation rather than a sermon. I heard many, many positive comments to that effect, and I hope we can somehow convince him to make it a regular habit.

I'm not a huge fan of pulpits/podiums. Even the clear plexiglass ones are still a communication barrier.
Jesus taught sitting down.
