Let us worship with reverence and awe for our God is a consuming fire.

I'm home today with a migraine, so this week's confessional will get right to the point.
Our day yesterday was a special "family" Lord's Supper. We made real special effort to get the word out about this event, and encouraged families to attend that maybe we had not seen for a while. All in all, our numbers were a little up.
We observed communion in a way completely foreign to our church. We invited families to gather together for introspection, prayer and repentance on their own, and then invited them to come forward and take communion as families at stations across the front of the auditorium. The whole process took about half the time we thought it would (I think we thought folks would spend a lot more time in prayer), so that means we dismissed over 10 minutes earlier than usual.
It was also a day for some emotional body blows. We made the decision to give away our dog because of all the damage he has caused. We just couldn't afford to keep him. Personally, I don't like dogs at all, so was not sorry to see him go. My daughter, however, was very attached and it broke my heart seeing her heart broken and hearing her crying. Also, a familiy in our church informed us at the end of the day that they won't be attending anymore because of the price of commuting (they live about 1/2 hour away), and so will find a church closer to home. This means my son has also lost his best friend at church, and our music ministry has lost our drummer.
That's two band members lost in a month, and we have no replacements waiting to step up. We'll miss them greatly, and not just for their talent. Here's the list.

Ouch. Can't we run a van out to that area and pick up whoever wants to come? I'll drive…

That's an interesting way of doing communion. I like it!

Jeff,
I feel ya on the ebb and flow of worship musicians. My band on the verge of an ebb as well and it's no fun.

I can relate about losing worship team members. Between times of losing guitarists, or even just having weeks where even a few musicians were out of town, or losing quite a few choir members over a short period… it's never fun, you miss them church/ministry family-wise, and miss how much their own gifts add to the church/ministry as well.

Mate… that was a tough Sunday… my kids having been nagging for a pet for a while now… I've been resisting in part for what you just had to go through!
We're also having problems with finding musicians… we did not a have our bassist this past Sunday (which meant we had no bass) and our drummer doesn't really want to drum anymore… but he is holding out for us! Not fun at all!
Keeping you in prayer mate.

I am so sorry to hear about losing band members. That's tough and so affects your whole team I know. I've been there. I'll pray God provides. I've decided God is into "Just in time" inventory. PRoviding just as you need it.
