worshipconfessional Worship Confessional: Sunday, October 5, 2008

How about I start out by going from the very negative to the positive? I had a horrible week last week. Wednesday morning (and the days before) I felt great, but after lunch I couldn't sit upright in my office chair for an hour. I went home and went to bed.

I'm still not really sure what was going on. I had a stuffy head/chest, runny nose, scratchy throat, nausea and a headache. With me, you never know when I'm sick if, when I get a headache if it is part of the sickness, or just one of my periodic migraines triggered by the sickness. In fact, I'm pretty sure the sickness part was over by Friday, but Saturday was horrible with migraine and nausea.

For the week, I ended up cancelling all rehearsals because of being down, so we winged it Sunday morning. I was exhausted yesterday morning, and for the first time ever sat down on a stool for the entire music set. I'm always amazed how good the actual leading of worship makes me feel. While up there and in the "zone," other than being tired I felt fine. Afterwards, when I took my seat, I felt like falling over.

All in all, I made it through, and the Lord gave us a good day. We held baptism and people walked the aisle. I'll take that any day.

Here's my set list:

  • Unchanging // Chris Tomlin
  • Leaning on the Everlasting Arms // Elisha Hoffman, Anthony Showalter
  • You Are My Strength // Reuben Morgan
  • Step by Step // Rich Mullins
  • Amazing Grace // John Newton, John P. Rees

I have noticed as well, how we can be totally physically off and it all comes together for worship. I ove how God is strong in our weakness.

Jeff,
Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I'm kinda that way, too … my ears are ringing super loud, constant headache – more sinus stuff, I think.

I totally relate to what you're saying, though. I've led worship breaking sweats and running fever, and had the strength to get through it, only to collapse shortly thereafter!

Thanks for being a part of Sunday Setlists again!

PS: Hey, would you consider putting a "TheWorshipCommunity" graphic up there w/ your sdcommunity button, etc., to your profile there?

Please don't take this as a measure of cruelty, but it made me smile to see song titles involving words like 'leaning' and 'strength' in your set after reading about how you've been feeling. Coincidence? :)

Hope you begin feeling better soon!

@brent(inWorship) and Fred: thanks for stopping by, as always. Fred, hope you get to feeling better as well.

@Kim: Oh, I absolutely do not think it was coincidental. I was struggling with the sickness already when finalizing that list, and it was all the more "real" to me as I was singing it Sunday AM. God knows what He's doing. It's all part of that "all things work together for good."
