Let us worship with reverence and awe for our God is a consuming fire.
I don't want to overwhelm anybody, but I do want to introduce to you some opportunities where you can give just a little and make a big difference in someone's life. So many times you may feel completely overwhelmed by the level of need out there, and sometimes find your hands are truly tied when it comes to something like a monthly sponsorship through Compassion International. Here are some "smaller" opportunities for you to get involved.
Our local church is helping out the area food bank by encouraging our pre-school through 6th grade children to collect their weight in canned food/non-perishable goods. Each kid will weigh themselves and then hit up their fellow church members, friends and neighbors for donations adding up to their weight in food. Everything will go to the local Aubrey area Hope Food Bank operated by Hilltop Church.
If you would like to donate some money or goods toward this effort, leave some contact information in a comment below and I get with you on how you can best help out.
This one's been around for a while, and really couldn't be must easier or more fun to participate in. All you simply do is take a shoe box (or similarly sized plastic container, which is often better) and fill it with small gifts, school supplies and hygeine products. Choose whether you are filling it up for a boy or a girl and indicate what age range is the target child, and Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham's organization) will take care of the rest. All they ask in addition is that you provide a few dollars to pay for the cost of shipping. Click the graphic above to learn more and get involved.
A simple, $5 donation can provide two pairs of shoes for children around the world who have none. The goal is to raise enough money to buy 50,000 shoes in 50 days (49 days left as of today). You can get involved by giving, and spreading the word. If you have a blog, throw up a post and show your support for this endeavor. Click the graphic above to learn more and donate money to the cause.
For all you musicians and worship leaders out there, imagine not having the most basic equipment available to lead congregational worship. Jan Owen has started a great project to help provide instruments and accessories to leaders and musicians in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. Jan's got two wish lists up at the Give Worship Project website were you can look and find needed items in nearly all price ranges. Click the link or the graphic to find some equipement you can give.

I love seeing all the things that people do to help each other around the holidays…Since I was in high school I've been involved in raising money for our Children's hospital each Christmas – and now that I have kids (and have unfortunately had to visit there a few times!) I am grateful that so many people get involved each year!
Now we just need to start being mindful of it other times of the year too – Christmas isn't the only time we can give someone something they so desperately need!
