This just in, if you're a Kindle owner you can download the ESV version of the Bible direct to your device from Amazon.
Thanks to Crossway for this. The ESV has quickly become my version of choice for daily reading this year. Literal, yet very readable.

What kind of patient?

24, Feb 2009

Just pondering some thoughts I had over the weekend. It strikes me that (in a general, blanket sort of way) there are two types of patients who visit the doctor.
Patient #1 is the kind who goes to their doctor with a problem, and is ready to change their lifestyle if necessary to effect a remedy.
Patient [...]

Pretty standard fare for yesterday's service. It was the second week of teaching "Center" by Charlie Hall. I saw quite a few folks trying it out by the second time around. No surprise with our crowd that keeping the "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" segment in draws more of them into the song. It was [...]

You

20, Feb 2009

I've never been too much of a poetry fan—and I'm not really sure this even qualifies as poetry. Either way, if you've never heard Amena Brown, you've really missed out. Her voice just exudes passion for the Lord. I though I'd share my favorite from Amena.

You can buy Amena Brown videos to use in your [...]

a different light

I'm always amazed when I notice something along the way that I've never noticed [...]

10, Feb 2009

Alright poets, songwriters and blog readers, I'm having trouble completing a lyric and I'm turning to you for ideas.
I'm doing a modernization of the hymn Since I Have Been Redeemed, and I'm adding a bridge section. I've got some ideas for completing the lyric line, but they all sound trite and cheesy to me, so [...]

As a follow up to this post, look what I pulled off the shelf today:

And I've actually written a little in it! Actually working on a rewrite of on old hymn. Though not a completely new song, it's a start.

So yeah, I haven't done one of these for the better part of a month. I'll give you the quick run-down of yesterday's service, and throw in the setlists from the two previous weeks.
Yesterday was a bit of a departure from "usual." Because of various circumstances, the band was down to a small number, so [...]

weekend

7, Feb 2009

Joy is at the BlissDom Conference through tomorrow, so things have been off schedule in the house this week. The kids have done a pretty good job of getting ahead on school work, so the schedule has been very light. I've had a lot of time on my hands to read and meditate and play [...]
