On Hiatus

17, Jun 2009

Hey everybody. I'm going to take a break from the internet for a while, at the very least through the end of June, and maybe longer. I'm not really sure yet. I won't be blogging or tweeting during the hiatus, nor reading most of what comes through my feed reader and Facebook—if I read anything [...]

I thought we had a really good day yesterday. It was something of a day off for me, not that I didn't show up and work, but it was a much welcomed change of pace. It has become my thing to operate FoH sound for the children's musicals. I really enjoy operating the board and [...]

In this final installment of this series, I'd like to quickly share another set of "cheater" chords, and let you know what some other worship leaders say they look for in a rhythm guitarist.

Now we're going to keep that fingering and slide up five [...]

In what might—or might not—be considered a follow-up volume to their previous Six Prayers God Always Answers, authors Jennifer Schuchmann and Mark Herringshaw use their winning formula for communication. Personal stories + real-world situations + relatable writing style = a book you want to read.
As with Six Prayers, this new book, Nine Ways God Always [...]

Here's the belated part 2 of Playing Rhythm Guitar in the Worship Band. In this post, I'll continue my previous listing of tips I've gleaned from my last few years of playing, and I'll also share some of my favorite chording "tricks."
Follow the leader. You've been doing this one since your were a little kid. [...]

Woo! Got to make this post a quick one. I'm behind, and our annual music camp starts in less than half an hour. That means well over 100 kids are coming through our doors as I type.
Overall, I thought the day was a good day. The band did very well, in that we seemed to [...]

What's it like?

5, Jun 2009

OK, I know I promised part 2 of my rhythm guitar post for today, but we went camping overnight and I've just not been able to geet it together.

Instead, I want for you to all go over to my friend Brent's blog and read his fantastic post. Even wondered what it's like for most music [...]

I've been playing guitar for around six years now, and five of those years I've been playing along on Sunday mornings with my worship band at our church. In this post, I don't claim to be a guitar guru, but I do want to share what five years of experience has taught me.
You won't find [...]
